PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Pre-Kindergarten is a unique class for older four year olds and young five year olds who have developed beyond pre-school skills but are not quite ready for kindergarten.

Lead Teacher: Diana Laughon

Maximum class size: 18

Student to teacher ratio: 9-1

Curriculum used: We use a variety of hands-on activities from Mailbox, resource ideas and supplemental materials.

State standards covered in curriculum: an accredited teacher with an assistant teaches Wyoming Early Childhood Readiness Standards.

Skills taught: Socialization, large and fine motor skills, developmentally appropriate reading and math skills.

Religion: Attend Mass once a week. Morning programs attend with all grades in our school (preschool through 9th grade). Homilies are geared for school aged children.

Religion curriculum: Christ Our Life series, Bishop approved.

Library time: Weekly library story time and checking out and returning library materials.

Special activities unique to this class: We attend Mass one afternoon a week. As a service project, we sing to the residents of the St. Anthony Manor. We incorporate the Fun Food Phonics program.

Goals to achieve by end of school year: To help students develop a sense of self and develop readiness skills for kindergarten.


MUSIC

Lead Teacher: Terry Cometto

Requirements to enroll: Willingness to sing and follow directions.

Curriculum used: Wee Sing Bible Songs, More Bible Songs, fun songs, nursery rhymes.

State standards covered in curriculum: Participate in the arts; historical and cultural content context.

Skills taught: Different voices: loud,msoft, speaking and singing voice; use of basic rhythm instruments, Boomwhackers, and Rhythm Circles.

Special activities unique to this class: Pre-kindergarten learns to use rhythm sticks and other basic instruments along with African instruments.

Goals to achieve by end of school year: Students will use their natural rhythms to express themselves and have fun in music.


PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Lead Teacher: Melissa "Muffy" Best

Curriculum used: Fitness Benchmarks 1-3 (explore health benefits, physical activities that enhance development); Movement Benchmarks 1-4 (locomotor skills, identify object control skills, body control skills and movement concepts).

State standards covered in curriculum: Wyoming State Standards.

Skills taught: Throwing,catching,locomotor skills (running, galloping, skipping, hopping, etc.); cooperative learning, sequences, health, warm-ups, stretching, sit-ups / crunches, jumping jacks, push-ups.

Special activities unique to this class: We warm up every day and stretch; we practice crunches, jumping jacks, and push-ups. We play as individuals as well as cooperative with peers. We have helpers (older students help). Positive and fun atmosphere.

Goals to achieve by end of school year: Understanding about importance of warming up, to develop basic skills, and develop a love of physical movement.


SPANISH

Lead Teacher: Osmeli Russian

Curriculum used: Introduction to Spanish language through songs, rhymes, mimicry, and drawings.

Skills taught: Students interpret and repeat in Spanish greetings, colors, and members of the family in very short oral phrases.

Special activities unique to this class: Using pictures, CD recording and oral mimicry, students learn to imitate Spanish sounds and speak simple phrases. Cultural units follow calendar, celebrations as listed in curriculum outline. These include art projects, songs, and puzzles.

Goals to achieve by end of school year: Students will recall and recite greetings, colors, and names of family members in Spanish.
